'Night Fury' A fictional snowboard movie filmed at night in Japan
So good to look back and remember the difficult times filming this short film. Our filming window was quite short and at times, well most of the time it seemed like everything was against us. The days blended together because it seemed like we had no time to do anything but lug lights around. The snowboarding we did was super different being at night and in the middle of no where in a country that where didn't even speak the language. We spent almost more time in our van than in our accommodation. Two of our three meals a day was from 711. In the script of this film we are being hunted by a phantom, it picks us off one by one until we are all dead. In reality the riders were dropping like flies, injuries caused by less than ideal snow conditions. It started the first run of the resort over here before we even got a camera out. Even with all the problems encountered I look back on this and am stoked at what we did. It was a super fun time and experience, even though it was more difficult than any of us thought it could be.
Edit from Japan a few years ago
This edit is footage from Filming the Japan Journals web series a while back. It was my first time exploring Hokkaido and we got some real good days. The highlight was Asahidake, it was insane cold and had mental powder and pillows. Some of the pillow footage here gets me so amped to ride. Love Japan!!
Super fun comp and was stoked to take it out..
The Parklife Rail Jam has always been a great event in Queenstown. The park crew always do a super good job and the setup is super fun to ride. A lot of the town turns out to watch and with Josh Clark or/and Jay Smith on the mic its a good time. This ended up being the last Parklife Rail Jam due to NZSKI deciding they couldn't cash in on it enough or something. Bit of a shame but this night was awesome!!
The elusive Coronet pow day.
Most Queenstown locals know how epic coronet peak is on a powder day but I think the rest of NZ thinks its a flat boring family hill. Thats what I thought before I got some good days there, now its one of my favourite places ever on its day. Jake Koia and I had an idea to shoot an episode there over a few powder days cause it would be a fun little project to work on and there is so many good random hits to film on. Turned out to be only one powder day the rest of the season so this was our one morning we got filming.
Corona heli edit
Probably the best heli day I've had. Epic crew, snow and terrain plus Coronas!
Southern Lakes heli and Sony Action Cam heli.. so fun!
This was filmed the same day as the Corona edit above so pow and beers.. Great day!! Go get an action cam and a selfie stick
Burton in Japan edit
This is footage of the NZ Burton riders in Japan. Good times cruising round Japan in our van, riding pow and doing donuts.

Got a couple of real good heli runs filming for this. A mostly fun couple of days. Flew around in the heli lots so got to explore lots of Mountains in the area even if we didn't get to ride them.
The second season of Japan Journals!!

Japan is always fun to ride and usually you get powder. Filming these episodes was a real good time. Got to explore more of Japan than I had before. The snow was mostly real good, we had a couple of nights with lights and generators that worked out well and explored and found a bunch of spots we and probably not many others know exist.
